By notvalid

Since my first post some sites are now valid. Rest assured I made sure the websites were not valid when I posted them, otherwise what would be the point.

I did get a few comments in the first entry saying this website wasn’t valid and you are correct. I was using a default theme made by someone else for wordpress.com. The difference is, I don’t claim to be valid and then advertise it on my site, like others do, and that is the entire point of this website (this does not include Myspace). Since then I have changed my theme and it is now valid, so hurray for that!

Any way, I found more websites that claimed to be valid (in either XHTML OR CSS) and are really not:

You may have a valid theme, but this idea is still pretty dumb. While having a valid website is a good idea, it isn’t the be all and end all of web design. Having an accessible, semantic design is more important.

You may not have declared you have a valid website when you don’t, but it was still quite hypocritical of you to nit pick about people not having valid code when your own wasn’t up to scratch.

Too busy to be shamed, sorry. ;)

So let me get this straight… you’re using a template made by someone else and boasting about it being valid, while dissing others who have coded theirs on their own. Hypocritical much?

For the record I briefly considered writing about this site for the same reasons that Sarah jumped on it with little thought. I’m one of those silly people that holds validation in high regard to a point It’s important, but if Twitter is fucking up your site then don’t sweat it.

However, I (well, we really) ultimately decided that it wasn’t worth writing about because, you see, I like there to be actual stupid when making fun of something or someone. I don’t just glob onto anything and run with it. Standards ftw.

Right, you might have a point if this wasn’t WordPress.com. Last time I checked you couldn’t create your own layouts and choices for themes were pretty slim. There’s very little you can do with a hosted blog like this, try another argument? Preferably one that doesn’t fail.

You might (stress on the might) have an argument if this wasn’t WordPress.com and its users weren’t left to the mercy of whatever themes the developers decided to install. What most people are failing to see is that this is a hosted site and therefore he doesn’t have any control over it, I mean aside from deciding which theme to use. If this site were hosted on a domain and he designed and coded the layout himself, well, then I might be able to see your point. But since this is a hosted site and the themes available were coded and designed by other people I don’t see why you’re even bringing it up.

Stick with the “validation is, like, ttly not as important as people think it is” argument and continue missing the point.

So, what is the point in this again? :P

The point is to make the owner feel good about themself for being so 1337.

Nice. JSYK, I have a screencap of my comment awaiting approval.

Becky: I don’t know the policy of wordpress.com, nor do I particularly care about it. Besides, there are other free hosts that let you do more.

I’m sure that there are, but which do you suppose he’s going to use? A site with a blogging system he feels comfortable with (I’m taking a big leap and assuming that he is one of the mindless drones who enjoys using WordPress in spite of its failings) or something new and foreign is the natural choice.

I meant my first comment where I posted a screencap of my site passing validation (though I am aware that my code does fail validation when I listen to Margot & The Nuclear So-So’s because of the ampersand). Approve THAT comment.

LOL, wait, nevermind. I just realized the silliness of it all. *takes out the popcorn*

Wow, that site you linked is horrible. My eyes!

Too bad my site doesn’t say it’s valid. It just has a link to the XHTML and CSS at the bottom. Nice try though :).
